Tom Morin
I began my working life in the military. After eleven years of military service, then a year working on drilling rigs in Northern Canada, I went back to school and soon moved into the corporate world, where I spent over twenty years in technical and leadership roles. Then, after coaching and consulting in various organizations for three years, I was an instructor at universities in Western Canada. I’m also in my fifth year of volunteering on the crisis lines at the Calgary Distress Centre.
I’m completing a Master of Counselling Psychology at City University in Calgary, and I’m seeking a counselling internship starting in January of 2027. This is my third graduate degree, in addition to a Doctor of Social Sciences and a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies.
My goal is to become a Registered Psychologist and I’m excited about starting this next chapter in my career journey.

Tom’s Counselling Practice Goals and Experience
I have good micro-skills in counselling sessions and quickly build rapport. My challenging personal and career experiences, and my experience on the crisis lines, enables me to connect with a diverse population.
I‘m interested in working with adults who are struggling with stress and coping in the workplace, addiction, relationship challenges, and navigating major life change events, such as divorce, job loss, and retirement.
Also, due to my military experience, I’m interested in working with first responders, military personnel, and veterans who struggle with trauma, stress and coping in the workplace, and finding fulfilment and meaning in their personal lives.
I’m interested in short-term therapy modalities (CBT, SFBT, ACT, EMDR), and I’m continuously upgrading my skills.
By the end of 2026, I will have completed all the counselling courses in my Masters program: family, addiction, grief & loss, group, couples, trauma, child & adolescent, and sexuality counselling. Theory and ethics courses will also be completed.
